The name of our organization—Humanitarian Experience, Inc.—has always promised a life-defining adventure. Over the years, more than 40,000 youth have proven that to be true. After the incredible blessings of Summer 2021, we have more confidence than ever in our humble promise: there will be miracles.
Today, we are updating our nickname. Although our official name won’t change—it will remain what it has always been, Humanitarian Experience—over the years we have become unofficially known by the acronym “HEFY.” Moving forward we will be updating that nickname to Humanitarian XP.
For the last 23 years, we have dedicated our lives to helping Builders, and in the process we have discovered something universal: the challenges our Builders face, at times, seem insurmountable, but Christ is always greater. So when we discovered that XP was an ancient symbol for Christ, we were sold. Why wouldn’t we change our name to focus on the One who does the miracles? Our primary objective is, and will always be, to give each youth the opportunity to deepen his/her own testimony of Jesus Christ through service—just by doing what He did.
This update to our nickname will not affect our methodology in any way. We’ve found the key elements of our experiences (the positive peer groups, the digital detox, the incredible Trip Leaders, and the grueling hard work) somehow combine to provide a setting in which the Spirit is able to work miracles. Prayer, scripture study, and church attendance will always remain a central part of all our experiences. Although we are an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are aligned with the principles, vision, and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.*
As we move into the 2022 season—the biggest year in Humanitarian XP history—we hope you’ll give some thought to what your own page in this incredible, still-unfolding story might be. We know for sure the next chapters will be extraordinary.
*Humanitarian XP is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is aligned with the principles, vision, and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
