In 2019, Bill and Melinda Gates wrote a letter about some of the biggest surprises they have seen in Africa, many of which HXP has also discovered: 

“The world keeps getting older, but Africa stays (nearly) the same age. In every part of the world, people are living longer. As more children survive to adulthood, women are having fewer kids than ever before… except in Africa. The median age there is just 18. In North America, it is 35. If sub-Saharan Africa commits to investing in its young people, the region could double its share of the global labor force by 2050, unlocking a better life for hundreds of millions of people.”

Some of the nicest malls in Africa can be found within Nairobi, Kenya, minutes away from the largest slums. This difference provides a visual representation of the major inequality gap within Nairobi. The main cause of inequality is the lack of education, which keeps families below the poverty line. 

This summer, HXP Builders will be expanding a primary school in Nairobi by building additional classroom blocks and bathrooms. The local primary school has almost 3,500 students and does not have nearly enough space to accommodate them all. Currently, the school is coping with major overcrowding and is unable to admit any new students who don’t have the opportunity to enroll in any schools nearby. By building these additional structures, the primary school will have more space for students to learn and will have more sanitary bathrooms for both students and teachers. Overall, this project will improve the learning experience for many students throughout the community.
